On Monday, November 15, voting ended on the State Services portal for settlements with a population of 100 to 500 people, in which Rostelecom must provide LTE cellular communications in 2022. The total quota for next year is 2001 settlements. Let's look into the details of this project.
The press service of the Ministry of Digital Development reported that due to the different conditions for the construction of communication lines in populated areas, the timing of their connection is divided into several stages. "Mobile Internet has already been connected in 299 populated areas that were voted for last year, and SIM cards with access to it are being sold. In 12 populated areas, connection is planned at the expense of the regions. By December 31, 2022, the Internet will be connected in another 659 populated areas, by March 31, 2023 - in 893 populated areas, by June 30, 2023 - in 139. In addition, in 2023, the Internet will be provided to 1.8 thousand populated areas for which Russian citizens will vote this year. More than 230 thousand people have already cast their votes," the representatives of the department explained.
Representatives of the press service of Rostelecom said that the volume of construction of base stations for the second stage of the project to eliminate the digital divide is determined by additional agreements to the state contract between the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications and PJSC Rostelecom from 2014. "In 2021, in accordance with the signed documents, 1,201 base stations (BS) were installed. The initially designated dates for the installation of BS in 2022 have been adjusted due to changes in external conditions. By the end of this year, mobile coverage will be provided in 1,000 settlements (with a population of 100-500 people), including both new construction and modernization or adjustment of previously installed equipment. The remaining volume will be completed in the first quarter of 2023," said representatives of Rostelecom.
