As you might expect, the layers that are closest to the car's control (instruments, ADAS, autonomous driving) are typically closed and as third-party developers there is not much opportunity to interact with them. In contrast, the infotainment layer is where there is greater openness and dynamism. In the next section we review the main players and platforms.
Platforms and providers
Below I describe what I consider to be the most relevant software platforms for connected cars.
QNX
QNX Software Systems is part of BlackBerry (it was acquired in 2010), and is a market bulgaria consumer email list leader in the automotive segment. The heart of its technology is the Neutrino RTOS, a Unix-based real-time operating system notable for its microkernel architecture.
QNX has a high penetration in the areas of telematics and infotainment. Cars from brands such as Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda and General Motors, among others, use this platform. Typically, QNX operates as a low-level platform, and brands build their own applications on top of it.
