In the first six months of 2023, 43.8 million unique email addresses and 0.8 million phone numbers were leaked into the public domain, according to statistics provided by researchers from the Innostage CyberART cyber threat countermeasures center.

In total, experts studied 34 personal data leaks that were recorded in Russian companies from January to June 2023. The leaks of personal data most affected the retail and information technology sectors.

Unfortunately, 32% of leaks are the fault of the company employees themselves, who were negligent or inattentive. For example, system administrators often left errors in database configurations. 12% of leaks were a direct consequence of the work of so-called insiders. 8% were the result of exploiting vulnerabilities in the organization's infrastructure.

According to Innostage CyberART, the largest number of leaks occurred in January, February and June 2023. By the way, leaks very often occurred in parallel with DDoS attacks, which helped to disguise the exploitation of vulnerabilities.
