Russian e-commerce and retail company for electronics and home appliances M.Video-Eldorado analyzed statistics on video card sales in the first half of 2024 in sales channels. According to data for the first six months of 2024, they were 233% higher in monetary terms compared to the same period in 2023. t LLC told a ComNews south africa whatsapp resource correspondent that in the first half of 2024, the number of orders for video cards increased by 35% compared to the same period in 2023. At the same time, a representative of the press service of Wildberries LLC said that in the first half of 2024, marketplace users purchased 200% more video cards than in the same period in 2023, with sales total growing by 272%. The top 5 most popular models among Wildberries buyers include AMD Radeon rx 580 8gb, RTX3060 DUAL 12GB GDDR6 192bit 3-DP HDMI, GeForce RTX4060 Dual OC 8Gb NE64060T19P1-1070D, GeForce RTX3060 12Gb LHR, RTX 4060 VENTUS 2X BLACK 8G OC.
A representative of the press service of Citylink LLC told a ComNews correspondent that the company agrees with the assessment of M.Video-Eldorado: "According to our data, in the first half of 2024, the growth in sales of video cards on the Russian market exceeded 200%. The indicators in Citylink correlate with this data. The growth in sales is affected by the availability of models in demand among consumers in Russian warehouses of distributors and retailers. Recently, we have been observing a trend towards purchasing video cards for working with artificial intelligence and video processing - demand is growing for high-performance graphics solutions that can effectively process complex calculations and perform tasks related to artificial intelligence. The RTX 4060 model is among the sales favorites."
The world's largest manufacturer of video cards is the American company NVIDIA. They are also produced by Micro-Star International (MSI) and Palit Microsystems Ltd (both Taiwan). Taiwan joined the sanctions against Russia back in March 2022, but MSI and Palit video cards are sold in bulk in Russia (in particular, they are sold by Citylink, DNS, M.Video-Eldorado). In addition, MSI and Palit representative offices still operate in the Russian Federation.
MSI's representative office in Russia, in particular in Moscow, has only a technical support number and email for technical inquiries. MSI, DNS, online stores AliExpress and Ozon did not respond to ComNews correspondent's questions, and Palit refrained from commenting.
A market source suggested that the growth in video card sales is linked to the rise in the Ethereum cryptocurrency rate, as the number of people who update their mining configuration every year is roughly the same, so the Ethereum factor remains.
Sergey Mezin, Head of the Development of Games and Gaming Community Department at M.Video-Eldorado Group, noted that gamers buy video cards for a number of reasons. "Firstly, prices for the RTX 4000 series have stabilized and become more affordable compared to 2023. Secondly, many major game releases are coming out in 2024. An add-on for the Elden Ring game has already been released, which is comparable in content to a separate major game. And even more potential hits are expected in the fall. Among them are Star Wars Outlaws, the new part of Test Drive Unlimited, Assasin's Creed Shadows, Kingdome Come Deliverance 2 and many others. In addition, powerful graphics accelerators are needed not only by gamers, but also by those who actively work with content, artificial intelligence and other products that require more computer power. All these factors are actively driving sales of video cards up," Sergey Mezin believes.
