During this session Yumi Amano looked at the difficulties presented by character limits when subtitling. Reina Akemiya explained the principal dilemma faced by translators when reviewing work - how to balance being paid per word with ensuring that translations are properly proofread and reviewed.

Translation Improvement Course
An enlightening session that highlighted translation mistakes that can arise due to the differences between English and Japanese grammar. Further causes of inappropriate translations were also examined. Gendai Kawatsuki explained methods for improving translations and Yumiko Funatsu identified the common characteristics of strange translations.
The Translation Improvement Course - update
A presentation of edited samples based on assignments submitted by participants in the Translation Improvement Course offered earlier in the year. This session provided an opportunity to learn exactly what to look out for and how to deliver more polished work.
