The demand for video surveillance systems is increasing, but at the same time competition is increasing and the cost of equipment is decreasing. In such a situation, vendors have to look for new ways to grow their business. This is facilitated by the rapid development of technologies, which stimulates the creation of innovative IT solutions based on video surveillance. In Russia, security issues are also given much attention. At the same time, the development of the video surveillance market is influenced by Russian realities, such as the difficult economic situation and import substitution policy.
How do vendors respond to the challenges of the video surveillance market? What innovations do they offer? What can consumers get as a result? The focus of this review is on increasing the efficiency of video surveillance systems through innovation.
Market Features
The video surveillance industry has seen dramatic changes in recent years. Several years ago, large Chinese companies entered the market and chose an aggressive strategy of putting price pressure on traditional players in order to increase their market share. And they succeeded. They quickly increased their sales volumes, and now their lead over their closest foreign competitors is so great that, according to the analytical company Memoori, the situation is unlikely to change, at least in the near future.
Due to this development, the growth of the global video surveillance market has slowed down, despite the increase in demand. According to Memoori's preliminary estimate, in 2017, the sales volume of video surveillance products in producer prices increased by 5.9% compared to 2016 and amounted to $15.9 billion. According to analysts, this result can hardly be called good, since in the previous five years the market grew by an average of 9.7%. But, on the other hand, they note that this is not bad, since many suppliers of video surveillance products were afraid whether it would be possible to ensure any growth in 2017 at all if the cost of cameras continued to fall, and it did.
