The ERROR_VC_DISCONNECTED 240 0xF0 error with the error message "The session was discarded" appears when there is a problem with the Virtual Channel session on a remote desktop or virtual environment such as Remote Desktop Protocol or VMware, Hyper-V, etc. This indicates that the connection was closed or interrupted unexpectedly.
First, make sure that the client and server devices are on the same network or connected correctly via VPN or remote access, then reboot them. If you are using a virtual platform, check the resource memory allocation CPU, memory, disk, find session limits, and review the platform logs for issues and warnings related to connection errors.
1. Check your RDP settings
Tap Windows+ Ito open the Settings app .
Go to the System section , then click Remote Desktop .
REMOTE DESKTOP - ERROR_VC_DISCONNECTED
Make sure the Remote Desktop option is enabled.
If it isn't, enable it, then click Yes when prompted by the UAC and click Confirm .
Then click the drop-down arrow next to the toggle and check the box next to Require devices to use network authentication to connect recommended.
Click Yes when prompted by the UAC, then click Confirm .
2. Adjust the session timeout
Click Windows+ Rto open the Run window .
GPEDIT MSC RUN ERROR_VC_DISCONNECTED
Type gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Group Policy Editor .

SESSION LIMITS - ERROR_VC_DISCONNECTED
On the right panel, you will see options to set up session time limits.
Double click on any of the options and select EnabledDisabled to make changes as per your requirement. Then click Apply , OK and reboot your PC.
Enabled - Click Apply and OK.
